Rings too big?

Typically when you're pregnant, your fingers swell and rings are too tight. The past few weeks I've been having the total opposite. I almost lost my engagement ring down the shower drain yesterday. Anyone else experiencing this?? What gives?

Re: Rings too big?

  • Where do you live? I live in NY and its getting colder. When its fall/winter my rings get alot bigger because you arent as "swollen" as you are in warmer months. Im a FTM so don't quote me, but I dont think you swell until much later in pregnancy.

  • You can easily lose rings when in the shower because water doesn't cause fingers to swell. H actually lost his wedding band when we went snorkeling on our honeymoon! My rings have been fitting fine, but we shall see as time goes on.

This makes sense as the same happens to me. I'm in WI and this time of year, my rings are noticeably looser. FWIW, my fingers never swelled when I was pregnant with DD and I only took them off before going to the hospital.

  • My fingers were swollen the last time I was pregnant, but not til later on when the weather was warmer. My fingers feel smaller right now, but it's because it's getting colder out. I have fat knuckles, though, so even though my ring feels loose on my finger, it won't go over my knuckle unless I pull it off..

  • I agree about the cold.  I was barely squeezing on my wedding band and just not wearing my engagement ring, but now that the temp has dropped a little I can wear them both again.

  • My fingers always get thinner when my hands are cold. So for me cold hands equals loose rings. And I've been having cold hands a lot.

  • I'd chalk it up to the cooler weather.  Mine spin constantly now that my hands feel cold, its very annoying.  Hand cream helps a bit.  I never had any problems with my rings feeling too small last pregnancy.

  • FWIW, I already had to take off my wedding rings due to swelling. I had a lot of ankle/hand swelling with DS, so much so, that it hurt to make a fist. So for some, swelling starts earlier. But if they are looser, I'd definitely say it's the colder weather :)

  • Hmm.. it must be the cold weather then, I'm in CO. But I've never had issues in the past with my rings being too large, even in the winter. And my fingers never swelled when I was pregnant with DS.

  • Mine keeps flying off, too. Every time I move it seems to fall to the ground. I've never had the issue before I was pg.
  • I've noticed this as well, even before it got cold! I thought it seemed a little backwards, too.

  • My rings always get looser in the winter time when it is colder (I live in MN).  Last time, my fingers didn't really start to swell until the 3rd trimester.

  • My rings are loose when I am dehydrated.
